I have heat again
Just got done doing the heater core on my 97, for those who say if you have hot heater core lines and still dont have heat, CHANGE YOUR HEATER CORE!

I have done everything possible in the past, New Stat, flushed core, checked vacuum, nothing worked. I would only get luke warm air, and on the highway it would get COLD.

SO,

I bit the bullett and replaced the core today. Took just over 4 hours and I also changer the radiator because the drain fitting had a crack in it. The darn radiator was $350.00 and Carquest was the only people who had one.
The heater core was $60.00 with the swivel ends.

I am going to cut the old one in half and see what it looked like.
I will try to post some pics.

 

Glad you got your heat back. Lookin foward to those plugged up heater core pictures. I think a core replacement is next on my list too.

 

Man you paid a bit much for the radiator. I got one a Napa for $264 this week. My heat is better now, radiator tank seal was leaking about 1/2 way down, been that way since last summer. A radiator full of coolant has made my heat better. I still probably need to change the heater core though.

 

Like I said, Carquest was THE ONLY ONE who had it in stock.
Napa was 3-4 days to get it.

 

That's suprising. Here Napa carries everything and Carquest has to order.

 

Not when the Carquest warehouse is where you shop.

 

How much of a pain to replace heater core in these trucks??

Its more of being a contorsionist, but not that bad.

The napa stores out here are getting BAD. They are all turning into big franchises, they are just like AutoZone or murrays.

 

i also have no heat, lukewarm at best - with fan removed and plasticized cardboard (no holes) blocking entire rad (behind intercooler) - it gets cold at highway speeds.

i was thinking of having a shop drain the system, run a flush thru it, back flush the system and fill up with new coolant and a new t-stat. but maybe i should replace the heater core also. . .

Make sure you get the heater core with the swivel tubes.

Also, on my 97 there was one more bolt holding the HVAC box on. It was on the firewall side. Cant miss it. If the box doesent come off of the firewall easy, then you have another bolt.
