How much torque

I was wondering if there was a formula for figuring out the torque when the hp is known. I dynoed at may madness 335 hp but the sheet didn't show the torque. Not that it really matters, just curious.

Horsepower=Torque*RPM/5252, so you'd need to know the RPM at which that horsepower figure was reached, then just plug the values into the formula and do the math.

The problem with the formula is that the peak Hp isn't at the spot of peak torque. If you have a chance to see some stock curves the torque peaks around 2000 Rpm and HP peaks near 2800. Its a fair estimate anyway.

If they gave you a HP curve and you can figure out the RPM from the graph (depending on roll speed, and your drivetrain ratios) you could get a fair estimate of your peak torque.

It sure helps to have the torque numbers from the dyno.

Good point about the peak values, Lil Dog.

I'm not sure how the calculations based on the dyno readings are adjusted to account for that.

Question

How do you mean?

The dyno basically does the math simultaniously with the HP numbers it collects. If you can get RPM, the torque is calculated following the Hp curve.

If you had a manual transmission and did the run in direct (4th or 5th depending on 5 or 6 spd) you could calculate your RPM simply from the diff ratio, tire size and roll speed (MPH). With that you could make your own torque curve.

I think thats what you were after...
