Tot torque or not to torque, that is the question.

Bought the permatex RTV gasket sealer made for differentials and instructions say to hand tighten till RTV just begins to squeeze out then wait an hour and turn 1/4 to 1/2 a turn to finish. Dodge TSB says to torque to 30 lbs imediately after applying RTV. I went with the instructions on the sealer and have a nice small bead now just about 1/16 all the way around the outer edge of RTV. This was not enough pressure to set off the torque wrench though. So leave it or torque to spec?

same here apply sealer, and torque right away...never had an issue in 20+yrs twisting wrenches, also I've never allowed sealer to "set" prior to tightening parts..

For what its worth the BEST RTV is "the Right Stuff" from permatex or the GM sealant GMS "also known as GM sealant" these two products are expensive compared to plain old RTV but if you dont want leaks this is the stuff to use!
