get in truck put seat belt on (this stops the door chime) cycle key on/off and leave ign on the 4th cycle, then hit the door lock button, you should hear a chime, and locks will be disabled

My 1999 owners manual tells me to take the truck to a dealer to disable the door locks.
My 2001 owners manual told me how to disable them....weird.

After a little Google'ing........
According to the 2001 Dodge Ram Sevice Repair Manual:

PROGRAMMABLE ELECTRONIC FEATURES DESCRIPTION

(1) The programmable electronic features that may
be provided on the vehicle are:
² Rolling Power Door Locks
² Horn Chirp (When Doors Locked With Remote Keyless Entry)
² Headlamp Flash (When Doors Locked or Unlocked With Remote Keyless Entry)
² Low Fuel Chime
² Remote Keyless Entry Door Unlock Sequence
² Headlights On Automatically With Wipers
² Turn Signal Chime
² 12V Power Outlet
² Remote Unlock
² Remote Linked To Memory
² Headlamp Delay
² Service Interval
² Easy Exit Seat

(2) Programming any of the above features is to be
performed prior to vehicle delivery to the customer,
depending on customer preference.
NOTE: For all vehicles except Caravan/Town and
Country, the programming must be performed using
the DRB IIIT scan tool. On Caravan/Town and Country
vehicles the features can be programmed using
the DRB IIIT scan tool or by button pushing
sequences. The customer can perform programming,
if desired, by following the instructions outlined
in the owner manual.
OPERATION
NOTE: The programmable features provided on
vehicles need to be explained to the customer at
the time of sale. The customer’s preferences concerning
the features should be noted and programmed
accordingly during predelivery.
NOTE: When using the DRB IIIT scan tool to enable/
disable any programmable electronic features, go to
the main menu item #9 on the DRB IIIT scan tool.
This is “Customer Preferences”. You must choose
“Customer Preferences” on the main menu to program
the desired features.

HEADLAMP FLASH
NOTE: This feature can be enabled with or without
the horn chirp feature.
The headlamp flash function is a feature that can
be enabled or disabled on vehicles equipped with
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE). The headlamps flash
once when the vehicle is locked with the RKE transmitter,
and flash twice when the vehicle is unlocked
with the RKE transmitter.
Horn Chirp - Optional
This feature is part of the Remote Keyless Entry system. When enabled, this feature generates a single horn chirp when locking the doors with Remote Keyless Entry transmitter. This feature is shipped enabled, but if desired the feature can be disabled by following these steps:
1. Place the key in ignition and turn the key to the ON position (do not start the engine)
2. Press and hold the UNLOCK button on the transmitter for four to ten seconds.
3 While the UNLOCK button is pressed, press the LOCK button on the transmitter and then release both buttons.
4. You will hear a single chime when programming is completed.
5. To enable the feature again, follow the above steps.

Well, I can't seem to make the headlights flash, but Ed, YOU DA MAN! My 99 now chirps when you lock it, for the first time in YEARS. I dunno why it stopped working, because I never got that intimate with my key fob, but it stopped chirping and I didn't know if it was broke or "re-programmed". It works now, though. THANKS Ed! Remind me to buy you a beer at Claremont this year!

I disabled the horn 'chirp' on mine when I installed the Grover air horns.

I didn't think the neighbors would find it amusing when I unlocked the truck at 0600hrs to leave for work.............
I'd like to have the lights 'wink' on locking and unlocking, but I'm not planning on paying dealer's labor rate to have it activated.
It looks like many of the 'options' can only be set with the use of the dealer's DRB.

When you go to open the door, doesn't it automatically unlock it when you pull the handle?

Not sure why the auto locks would be irritating.
