How bout a Good Wheel Alignment Thread

I just got new Tires and am looking for a good shop again to check my Alignment . My new 285/75/17 BFG KO's are feathering and I looks like at least too much Toe in

I also just put new Bilstien shocks on the front.

30.000 miles since the last alignment done by Precision Alignment in Temecula Ca.
Here is there print out specs after they did the "Their" alignment work. All they did was a toe adj. no other adjustment

Chamber: Left= +0.3, Right= -0.2
Cross Chamber: +0.4
Caster: Left= 2.6, Right= 2.6
Cross Caster: 0.0
Toe: Left= .05, Right= .05
Total Toe= .09 approx 3/32(.09375) toe in

I wasnt impressed with their spec sheet when they were done, and got the " its within specs" line of BS

My truck has always ran straight , no wonder or pull, and no wobble or death wobble ever at all. So ive been happy with the way the truck drives except the feathering of my new tires. Maybe toe in is to much

I have the good specs printed out from the Dodge Web Site
Caster L= 3.2, R= 3.5
Camber L= -0.01, R= =0.01
Havent seen a good toe in recommndation. Maybe 0.0 -.0625(1/16")?

I stopped by a couple small shops with computer print out alignment machines , but wasnt impressed with either of their assements of my tire wear, just the usuall "thats normal wear" BS.

If anyone knows a good shop near Lake Elsinore or maybe City of Orange (So. Calif) let me know

Rick

Too low air pressure will cause excessive tire wear. So will cornering too fast.

I think Genos has the specs. FSM gives a wide range. Caster is not a wear item but helps truck go straight. Working from memory camber is the same on both sides but is not adjustable. If you weren't wearing tires before, you shouldn't be wearing them now unless something has changed. Toe should be close to 0.

I haven't found a "good alignment" shop but bought Firestone's Lifetime for what amounts to the price of 2 alignments. They have stores scattered across the country & I align with every or every other tire balance. If I don't like the specs, I go back on the machine for free.

Toe should be close to 0. mine was at .09 (3/32) toe in. depending what it is now when I get it on a alignment rack, I think closer to 0 might be good advice
Here's a good thread I found

I think Genos has the specs.
Actually the link is on the dodgeram.org site.

"Scientific" way to check tire pressure is to paint or chalk a line across all four tire treads then go for a short drive on dry pavement with the normal load.
If the line wears off in the middle pressure is too high.
Wears on the edge, too low.
Even all the way across, perfect.

Looks like that may be the original that has been referenced many places. Too bad it is so difficult to get the tech to set it that way. They ALL seem to know better than a retail customer walking off the street.

We set all of the trucks that come to my shop at 0 Deg Camber, .25 Deg caster higher on right (compensates for road crown) and toe is at .05 Deg (1/16 inch) Also you need to keep the tires rotated. Feathering can be cause by lack of rotation, hard turning or low air pressure. My $.02

Except camber is only adjustable with aftermarket ball joints at least on a 2000 4x4.

Junkman,, Do you have a dana 60 for a front axle? My '99 Dana 60 has sleeves up top where the ball joint nut is.

I just did a Toe in adjustment myself, I couldnt find a decent alignment shop local.
I was at 5/32 toe in and adjusted out 3/32 , so Im at 1/16 toe in

Made some marks with white paint and a tiny fine artist brush so I know where it was and how far I turned the collar
