Unhappy Help again fellas...

Fellas,

yall remeber some time back i was having trouble with the GEN light turned on in my truck? Well I had said that i bought a new computer, but it never came in, so i got a refund and i decided to try the 12V regulator option again. It worked like a charm for a good while. The only problem was that i kept blowing the 30 AMP pink fuse that is stated to be the engine control fuse on the little box top. I only blew it once and it worked trouble free up until just three hours ago. I turned on the truck and the ABS light, and Parking brake light stayed turned on, and the voltage was down to about 10 with that stupid gen light on AGAIN! now mind you

the 12 volt regulator system NEVER EVER worked flawlessly for me, it worked flawlessly for a little while, then the voltage was high once again after a week or so with the first regulator, i changed out two more regulators and the problem remained. I stuck a volt meter to the batteries and they were charging at 15.5 volts.. DANG THATS HIGH!!

The system worked this way since back about three months ago when i first had these problems. IM NO ELECTRICAL BUG, i downright hate electronics, But now what happens even with the regulator turned off, i put the key forward as in to set the glow plugs and even with a 60 amp fuse in the slot for the 30 amp engine control fuse, it blows it quickly and it smells like burnt fuse strong enough for concern and to worry. Right now i have the truck with the hood open, yet not completely so that the lamp wont turn on, and i also have just enough juice to crank it one more time (i think.. ) For yalls info, the voltage is now reading and maybe 12 volts at best.......i am pretty sure that there is a short somewhere, i just dont have the time, electronic know how, or patience to figure it out, or look at it. All the wires look the same to me,

Infidel, and other 12V gurus, i need your help, i dont know if the 12V system was workin properly or not anymore, and i dont want to ruin the truck or wiring anymore than what it already is. The truck is headed to an electronic alternator and starter shop tomorrow, im gonna leave it and see what they can find with it. But im sincerely askin and wonderin

Does anyone have any suggestions? or had this experience before? The more i look at it, the more that i want to get that computer now, it didnt come in last time, but i do have a hookup in houston that can get me one for sure.

Guys im sorry for the bother and please help me to get my only set of wheels back on the road again...

your friend and fellow DTR member

Those wiring problems are tough. Unless you know how to troubleshoot them you can spin your wheels for hours and not get a thing done. Glad to hear you are back on the road.

GEN LIGHT YET ******* AGAIN!!!

Guys

THAT JUST ABOUT DOES IT!! I get in the truck and turn it on this morning, and yet again GEN LIGHT BIG AND BRIGHT AND IN MY FACE!! i just paid money to get it fixed and yesterday it was workin fine, now its just bein a pita!! Each and everyday i had to put up with that gen light and from here on out i guess its no exception.

With or without a properly hooked 12V regulator system on there GEN light is on again and again and again and again. (sorry been a rough mornin) WIthout the regulator, it seems that voltage is too low and battery wont charge, with the regulator, its too high and i have to stay on top of my batteries, literally,

It was workin fine yesterday, it would go up slightly when id drive then it would go back down to normal and no gen light which had me like this little guy and happy as can be. This brings my suspicions that there is a dang short somewhere, i am no good at wiring and dont wanna pay anymore money,

Its a bad PCM that is somethin we can all agree on But I dont have the money to buy a pcm and fixin this stupid freakin problem is costing me in the long run what teh pcm should have already fixed. Try as I may this truley is the biggest PITA from my ram

I already solved the light problem, nothing a piece of electrical tape over the dash cant solve, but the voltage dont lie... Im killin my batteries, and possibly my sound system in the truck

Any ideas besides save up for PCM?? im takin it back to the shop after work. but still i can help but be Im sorry for venting, and if i seem rude, but after three months of this problem I HAVE HAD ENOUGH!!!

Have you checked the output of the alternator. It is a complete unit. Output and control of voltage is internal.

Yup

alternator was brand new, autozone two weeks old, tested, ive had this problem for months now, thanks for the suggestion, I went and bought the computer, had to special order a REMANUFACTURED ONE from Washington, (only place they had it) and i paid 610 dollars for it! I get 100 bucks back when i bring the core back. If that dont solve my problems.. im gonna go nuts.... I installed the regulator, checked alternator output, changed regulators, fuses, new batteries, new battery cables, new starter, new alternator, just too much money spent tryin to go around what i suspected it was since infidels first response of a bad PCM.. i shoulda followed thru with my guns and gotten it the first time around.. save me alot of time, well money not really at least i have several new worry free parts...

You just gave the clue. AutoZone!!!! I've made numerous trips back to autozone with faulty new parts.

I suggest take it to a alternator/starter shop. Those guys know their business. AutoZone doesn't know anymore than a high school graduate.
