Headlights Work When Steering Wheel Is Up

I currently have the steering column housing off and if I put the steering wheel to full tilt up the lights work, anywhere else they do not.

I have changed the multi-function switch, but it has not helped. Before this with the housing on I had to bang the steering wheel upwards multiple times to get the lights to stay on.

The running lights work, taillights work, signals work, the only other problem is that the high beams would not stay engaged, so that is why the multi-function switch was my first attempt.

Any ideas?

i had a problem with the lights too. when i lowered the wheel the lights would go out. the problem is for all the years of raising and lowering the wheel the heahlight wire coming into the harness connector on the column just behind the wheel pulled out of the connector. i cant remember the name of the connector. i had to unplug the connector and remove the metal spade inside and reconnect the wire to it. before i removed the connector you could not tell the wire was disconnected. hope this helps but its one in the morning and i'm doing the best i can. bunyan

Thanks Bunyan

I'll try that and let everybody know how it goes. I had hoped somebody else had this problem before.

Question How did you make out?

Did you ever get anywhere with your headlight issue? My truck is doing the identical thing! I searched this forum and came up with this thread.

Mine too!

Mine just started doing this as well. I am not sure what the deal is but any suggestions would be appreciated! I absolutely hate working in the steering column!

It's somewhat common for wires to pull out of the connector especially if you tilt the wheel often.
If Dodge had given just one more inch of wire it wouldn't be a problem but then it would have cost them an extra hundredth of a cent.

So can this connector be seen/reseated without taking anything apart? Please describe it's location. Thanks!

Once you take the cover off you'll see the connector.
Just pull on each wire and find any that aren't connected.

Infidel was spot on as usual!

I pulled the covers off of the steering column on Saturday. It took me quite a while to find it but sure enough, the purple wire had pulled out of the plug. I plugged it back in and the lights now work no matter the position of the steering wheel.

Thanks for the help!!

This is why I rarely tilt my column that and it loosens up after time.
