Headlights Don't Work

Hey guys,

Glad I just discovered this forum tonight. Anyway, can someone tell me if the fuse that is part of the headlight switch assembly is replaceable or do I need to replace the entire switch assembly. Also, the truck is a 1998, can you tell me how to remove the dress up panel to get to the switch? Thanks!

I think the fuse for the headlights is in the main fuse box under the hood and there should be a relay also. Check for power to the switch before replacing it. Not sure on the panel removal, If there are no screws then it should be spring clips.

Before you do anything, you should check your high-beam lever. Make sure that it is not stuck in between high beam and low beam. This just happened to me the other night.

I know the 96 dodge's have this... If you cup holder is in the dash there is two screws there and if the ash tray is in the dash area there are two more.

As for 2002 the dash pulls out. Take your time in both cases the bezel trim is kinda on the fragile side.It won't take a bunch of pulling...

Mala5 Welcome to the DTR sight now I hope you have gotten your lights/switch fixed by now. You will fined this DTR sight very helpful on many things for your truck as I have Welcome aboard. Also it is time to update your profile now. You can do this by telling us about the 1998 Dodge truck.

Mike,

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like the high beam lever was stuck between positions. I think there will be more to this problem since the high beams were stuck on and it took a couple of tries to get the low beams back. Wonder how much a new switch is going to cost me. Thanks again!

The switch is $60 from here> http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...cfm?siteid=835

This is common problem with all Chrysler vehicles that use this switch. Mostly happens to people who don't use the brights very often, the switch gets full of dirt. A new switch will do the same thing over time, best solution is to "exercise" the switch every once and in awhile by flipping back and forth from high to low, the headlights don't need to be on. You can also spray electronic cleaner on the switch, it's at the base of the turn signal shaft.

This can create a very dangerous situation, surprised it hasn't had a recall. You can get the recall ball rolling by filing a complaint here, you will need your VIN number. I encourage anyone who has had this problem to file a complaint also, it doesn't take many to force a recall. Only takes a minute.
