Headlight Hi-Beams

I'm having a problem with selecting my hi-beam lights on on 2001 RAM 2500 CDI. When I click the switch the lights flash to high the go back to low or sometimes they go out. If I hold the hi-beam switch on for about 10 seconds then release it the hi-beams stay on and the system works normally.

Is there a headlight relay somewhere? I can't find it. Or is this a problem with the switch itself?

Thanks for your help.
David

When I bought my '96, I had no headlights (low or high), I replaced the main switch. It was burned up. Yes there is a relay, but I'm not sure where.

It is the multifunction switch on the column.

They are available through NAPA, PN DS6142, for about 100 bucks retail. Dodge wanted $288 for the same switch. Hauled them apart, same model numbers inside. Go figure.

Mine did the same thing last spring, swapped out the switch, problem solved.

Good luck

also if you have a tilt column check the wiring to the switch in the column. ive seen several instances where the wiring will pull out of the harness

Ditto on checking the wires at the tilt. I've had several problems there over the years.

Just in case, the headlight relay is under the hood in the main fuse panel behind the drivers battery.

This sounds like the multifunction switch, though.
