Head light switches for 1999
Head light switches for 1999
Anyone got a good reasonably priced source for new head light switches for the 99's?

Mine has been replaced once under warranty and it gets so hot now that you can't hardly touch it to turn the lights off. I think DC needs to evaluate moving the heat sink from the switch to out under the hood somewhere. I'm afraid it will burn up the wiring harness soon.

DD, I heard one member say he pulled the headlight switch and drilled a couple of holes in the dash vent that runs right beside the switch. The air blows across the switch and keeps it cooler.

Re:Head light switches for 1999
My 98, although a different style switch had the same problem, I went to the junk yard and picked up a relay box out of a Jeep Cherokee, (there nice and thin), mounted it under my rear seat and basically rewired the whole lighting system on my truck, front lights are on one circuit, rear on another, cab and identification on another, then I had extra relays in that box for my e-brake and overdrive. Another thing you could do that would help your load is to switch over to LED lights, (I used Trucklight), they mount the same way. Before I started this project, now mind you I have lights on my mirrors and other lights under my tailgate, I had to replace the 15 amp fuse with a 20 amp that would blow every once in a while from the current draw, after the relay box and the switch to LED's I have a 10 amp in that has not yet fried. Knock on wood. It takes a little bit of solder and shrink tube but I think what I have done will eliminate the possibillity of my truck burning because of the head light switch. One other thing you might want to check on my 98 there was only one 22 guage ground from the headdlight switch, you could try using a heavier ground, I had done this when I had my wiring all ripped apart, but I don't know if it will help at all just by itself.
Rick
