Hard time over road bumps...

Okay, I have a question that has been puzzling me for a while.

First - the truck itself - as my signature shows, is a '96 2500 2WD long bed/regular cab. It has Michelin LTX's 245-75 R16's and the rear tires have about 20k more miles than the fronts - so front are at 10k and rears are 30k. Need to have them roated and probably have a four-wheel alignment done. Other biggie - shocks, probably original - I know...

So - what it's doing, on these excellent Illinois roads it literally acts as it it's "tripping" over the full-width road bumps that are so very common now. Sometimes it feels as though the truck turns a bit between front & rear axle, simply making matters worse.

Where to start? By the way, I just had the ball joints done at around 315k, and the pitman arm & idler replaced at around 305k. However the steering is feeling a little more loose again too.

Thanks for any suggestions...

well you KNOW you need to do the shocks.... bump steer could be an effect of the shocks wallowing after a bump. how about any other tie rod ends in the steering up front? i know the 4wd steering boxes suck, how about the 2wd? add a dss steering stabilizer if the box/sector shaft is deflecting at all
