Grease On The Front Axle Seal Surface

Just put my left axle back in after replacing the ball joints. I forgot to grease the machined axle-to-seal surface . Should I pull it back apart and grease this surface? I am at a point where this would not be too involved to do but don't want to unless it is necessary because I don't want to torment the seal any more than I have to. Thanks for your replies!!
