fuel sending unit compatibility

Howdy,
I have a 95 2500 that (of course) has a bad fuel sending unit. Could I put one from a newer cummins in there? The ones with the fuel pump built in? Or does the pump have to be running to allow flow? If so, would that be too much psi for the lift pump/ip? I have the updated cummins lift pump if that helps. Thanks in advance

Considering the electronics and computers for each year are different, I'd go with the part # designated for your truck.
