Fuel Hose Source?
Fuel Hose Source?
For some reason the "Search" function isn't working and I really need to get an answer to this. Since replacing the fuel gauge sender I've got a slight leak from the top of the tank but it appears to be only when the truck is running. I'm guessing there is an O-ring in the quick connect on the return side that I may have messed up some. Since the steel lines are known to fail anyway I figured I'd replace them from the tank to the pump. IIRC several members have replaced the stockers with USCG approved marine fuel hose. Anyone have any input on if this is a reliable/safe fix and where I can order some of that hose from? Also, if someone knows how many feet of each size (it looks like 3/8" feed and 5/16" return) I'd need to do the job I'd appreciate not having to climb under there and try to measure it.
Thanks.
John
Thanks.

Climb under and measure, length all depends on which type of cab you have. 12 ft is usually enough, but don't trust me with your money.
Your sig says you live near a lake, any marine supply store can get you USCG hose.
Or click here http://www.google.com/products?q=USC...&hl=en&show=dd

I bought mine a few months back from www.fisheriessupply.com Part #125972 and #127167.
Its Trident barrier A1 marine fuel hose that says it "Exceeds ABYC H-24 & H-33,SAEJ1527, ISO 7840 & USCG Type A1"
Seemed like a pretty good per foot price from what I had seen in my looking.

Thanks for the help fellas. I'm going to climb under there at work tomorrow to measure and to make sure it isn't something dumb like the return fitting not seated properly at the sending unit. I spent some time sanding, priming, and painting the lines while I had the tank out so I'm hoping I can get some use out of them after all that work.
If not, I just remembered there is a Boater's World that I pass on the way home from work. I do live by a lake but the marinas around here are very high with their pricing.

Do our trucks come stock with braided stainless steel hose from the tank to the pump? Cause that's what I have on mine, I looked at the maintenance records and the previous owner noted that he replaced them.
There is a short section of braided by the tranny to allow for engine movement but the majority of the lines are steel with hose at the ends.

Our trucks come with a combination of rubber and steel line. There is a plastic like line that runs from the sending unit to the frame rail where it becomes steel. Up by the engine compartment, it switches to rubber lines again. wcbcruzer, it sounds like you have aftermarket lines. I don't see any point in keeping the stock line setup when you replace it since it is much easier to just make it all out of one kind of line.
