Fuel gauge crapped

Anyone had to change sending unit in the tank on a 2002 SB. Do you have to drop the monster of a tank to change it.

Failed tank sender is very common.
I and many other find it easier to tilt the bed up rather than drop the tank. Don't have to worry about how much fuel is in the tank plus the connections are a lot easier to disconnect when you can see them good.
The dealer mechanics who get paid piecework tilt the bed.

Sender is dealer only and available separately for about $60. Some parts guys will tell you that you have to buy the entire module for $300+.
Not true.

I dropped the tank when I had to do mine, but some find it easier to remove the bed. Either way, not too bad a job...

I bought a sender from Centroid Products that has no moving parts. They should have the specs since several people have ordered. Not always as accurate as stock but broken stock doesn't work well either.

Thanks guys, I think tilting the box is probably easier than dropping the gynormous tank.

Sending unit was about 100.00 from Dealer Scammers. I called Napa and related parts houses and none of them even had a listing for it so I knew it was OEM only. Well I guess I gotta get dirty again. Wouldn't be the first time with this horse.

I've dropped the tank twice on mine, and I'll never do it again--next time I'm tilting the bed, aux tank or no aux tank.

To tilt the bed you only need to remove the four bolts on the driver's side, just loosen the pass side.
One medium strong person can tilt it up 18" or so while a wimp props it up with a 2x4.
