Front wheel bearings

I am going to have to replace the front wheel bearings and hubs on our 2000 3/4ton 4x4 CTD. Does anyone make a hub that has replaceable bearings that will fit this truck?

I had a bearing go south on me, and looked around for the same thing (a set-up with replaceable bearings, rather than the one-piece bearing/hub assy) with no luck - not sure if you're in the same boat with your 2K....please post if you do find one!

There is a replacement kit that you can get that has serviceable bearings in it. The only problem is that you also have to change the axle shafts I think. It isn't a lot more then doing both hubs though. There was a article about it in Diesel Power Mag a while ago. I will try to find out where the kit is from.

I got the first emsoffroad kit....the very first. It s been in for a few thousand miles now. Love it, I pull a 50 ft enclosed and used 4 lo with out locking the hubs last night....so its 2 lo, makes backing up a big trailer real nice.

I also used the hubs at sand hollow Utah were I launched the boat with out a launch ramp, my friend with a d max and the same boat said no hed get stuck and drove a few miles on the worst dirt road to get to the paved launch ramp. Milage is up alittle, and I have replaceable bearings that are available.....

That was what I was looking for. It may be a little more but now but in the long run it makes things a lot easier. My brother just replaced one of his hub assemblies and he said it was squeaking already.

Where does the ABS sensor go on this setup? I don't see anything that resembles it in the pic.

Front Wheel Hub/Bearings

I have 145,000 miles on my truck and at around 100,000 I did quite a bit of servicing. One of the things I did was change both upper ball joints. When I was pulling the hub on the drivers side it came apart in 2. I got the inner half off and changed the upper ball joint. When it came to putting the hub back on I just cleaned up both surfaces and ***** and repacked them, put the inner hub half on with the abs ring and the 4 12 point bolts and then stuck the ***** on using the grease to hold them in place and installed the outer half. The nut from the axle pulled the outer right back in place. When I pulled the other side it came off like the book said it should, in one piece. Well about 10,000 miles later my truck got stuck out in the middle of no where with all of the ***** from the front hub bearing on the ground next to the tire. My wifes friend was driving and he called and I went out to take a look. Well to my (little to no) surprise the hub/bearing that dried up and failed was the right side that came off in one piece. I now at certain intervals leave the 4 12 point bolts on and purposely pull the hub assemblies apart and clean and repack them. No fuss with the ABS plate as it is behind the inner hub half and I don't have to worry about them drying up and throwing up ***** leaving me stranded. When they eventually go bad I will look into the replaceable bearing mods. But until then this works for me. Joe

1320: I run a 3k truck camper on a 3/4 ton 2002.

Does the kit look ' heavy duty' enough for 4500-4700
front axle weight???

Did you check the dyna-trac conversation?
same thing/better price?

There are aftermarket wheel hub units available.. dunno who the mfr was but I could swear I saw timken bearings or seals on them. I have a set on my truck that have behaved themselves for a few thousand miles so far. I paid something like 230$ each, which is still overpriced IMO.
Friend of mine with a 1500 gasser has had his break twice in 5 months, both sides are flopping around and need replacement. He got towed home last night with one wheel pointing at an odd angle
Its real easy to spot this before it becomes a problem, just lean your weight on the top of the wheel and push it a few times, feel for a thump.
