Front shocks

I think I read something somewhere about replacing the front shocks on the front of our 4x4's. Is it true that you have to pull the tower off to pull the shock?

there are three nuts on the top of the tower. when you pull those nuts the shock and the top section of the tower lift off. it's super easy.

Thanks for the reply, I thought that was what had to be done. I guess its time to replace seeing the truck is almost 8 years old. Now I have to figure out if I get stock or aftermarket..

Bilsteins! While you're in there, it'd be a good time to consider spacers or springs if that's what you're interested in.

I think you'll be "shocked" at the results from Bilstein. Try www.eshocks.com.

Make sure you tighten the bejesus out of the bottom bolts on the axle. If you don't, it will rattle under your feet and drive you insane.

I got the new shocks installed last night. It wasn't too hard, I keep the truck well undercoated so all the stuff came apart quite easily. You learn tricks as you go and I could cut the time in half if I did it again. I went with a couple shocks from Napa, couldn't beat the price and they seem to be decent. I very rarely load or pound the truck so I think these will work just fine. They have a 2 year warranty also.
One thing I found out quickly is the limited room made for some interesting thoughts but again it wasn't too bad. Thanks for the thoughts and help. Next stop the rear end.....
