Front bumper gap.

How do you adjust the front bumper ends that sag on these 2nd gen trucks?

I could be mistaken, but I think all you have to do is loosen the 2 or 3 bolts on the bumper mounts (each side), reposition bumper and tighten. I'm just trying to remember from a topic started way back..

on my bumper my problem has always been the plastic bumper cap that has moved. my bumper hasnt moved. I have seen some people put a flat smooth top bolt through it to hold the bumper dont know if that is a bad way or good

Mine as others I've seen get a big gap one side or both.Mines one side. Its off from left to right bigger to smaller.I kinda remember having a tech look at one like that a long time back.It was not I don't think a simple loosen this and adjust thing.I need to stop at a body shop and ask.

Sounds easy enough from the service manual: Remove the plastic rivet on the end of the black air dam (kind of on the side of the bumper/fascia pointing to the rear. It's between the bumper fascia and the front wheel well end). There are adjusting ribs that the fascia can be moved along. I think you pull out the fascia part and move it up or down and then replace the rivet. The gap is supposed to be 19mm, but "parallelism is most important."

The top plastic piece can sometimes sag too. Due to my wife driving mine had to be replaced and the body shop put too small of a christmas tree (plastic rivet in it) and it sagged horribly. I went back and they gave me longer ones, but the plastic sticks out pretty far from the metal. I think a bolt may hold better but would be obvious unless you paint it black first.

After leaving the road (many times) my plastic didn't want to stay in place so I drilled 1/4 inch holes right through the plastic and bumper and used stainless steel carriage bolts, Looks like factory if you place them evenly.

Replace the plastic rivet with a SS screw, lock nut, washer and upholstery washer. Looks good. Hasn't moved in three years and 35K miles.

Who else thinks the plastic attachments on the front bumper look like fecal matter?

I had to adjust my plastic all the way up. The gap is still too big & the ends sag. I did bolt it down & will find out how to adjust the bumper itself when the task floats to the top of the list. (It hasn't made it for at least 8 months.)

Is it just your plastic that is sagging, or the entire bumper itself?

My upper plastic was starting to come off (wasn't bad on the sides) and I ran some flat headed bolts through the plastic and bumper. Put lock washers and nuts on the back and held good for a few years.

I was outside gandering at mine and the pass side will adjust up and the plastic fastener won't hold it in place.BUT the drivers side apparently the whole unit is down cause I managed to get the plastic to the end of its travel. The pass side just needs a bolt/washer and lock it down once adjusted up.But the drivers side needs more then that.

Mine's been sagging on the drivers side since I got the truck, at 2 years old and 100K ago. It's only noticable from the drivers side anyway (just the side I get in and out of...) Been wondering about it for ever...Figure I'll tackle it when I install the fog lights.

Others have loosed all the bracket bolts and repositioned the location entirely. I see a lot of trucks around here with sagging bumpers at the corner of the fenders. My plastic liner will adjust past level by a bit so I figure my bumper is in good position.
