front bumper

how do you get those stud plates off. took all the bolts off that I think I needed to but can't get those stud plates off. It seems like they should slide right off but they won't. should I just do it the old fashion way and knock them out with a hammer. or am I missing a step somewhere.

Are you trying to remove the front bumper?

I don't recall anything like you're describing when I removed mine.

Picture perhaps?

It's been a while, but I think it came off pretty easily once I got the bolts off.

There are the bolts on the frame, and two support brackets towards the outer ends.

Maybe you're working on bolts too far away from the bumper?
The bolts in question are difficult to get to with the radiator so close to them.
If you don't have an air ratchet, it takes a lot of maneuvering.

At least yours had bolts. The PO of my 96 had a full replacement on it and took it off and put the factory bumper back on but had welded the replacement and then the factory bumper back on and was so messed up that I had to take out the front cross member to make enough room to clean up all the welds and stuff and have some frame to mount the full replacement that I made and make a new crossmember as part of the grill guard. I hate it when people weld to the frame.
