The Final Word on Track bar Fix?

Just wondering if anyone has compared the several options out there and has a good feel for the best one? I am leaning towards the '03 track bar as the best fix for longlasting durability, but maybe someone has a different experience?

Thanks

I certainly can't speak for all options - I installed a Thuren bar on Wednesday and left on a 600-mile trip Thursday evening. WOW!!! Amazing difference. In conjunction with a DSS I have tight steering and NO play. Just awesome.

As to the Thuren bar - I was shocked at the size when I received it. Looks closer to an aircraft landing gear component than a track bar. I will be hard pressed to wear the Thuren bar out...

I've been see-sawing my steering wheel for a awhile now. It is only when i drove a 2007 gmc(company vehicle) that i realized how bad and unsafe my steering is. I'll be getting in touch with PDR for a track bar and DSS, soon....

next business day

Then down to the garage for alignment check.

I have the DSS and the 03 track bar bracket and love them both. I think the thuren and DT pro fab are nice pieces, but I didn't want to have to replace the hiems when they wear out, the rubber bushings in the 03 bar will far outlast hiems in my opinion. Also I didn't need the adjustability.

If you get the 03 bracket and don't need the adjustable bar that solid steel make you can save some money ordering your 03 bar from these guys

I had replaced the track bar several times , only to have the death wobble come back.

Finally, i cut a pieve of thick wall tube, to accept the through bolt on the bolted end. Weleded it between the tabs. Mine had wobbles so bad it ovaled out the end.

On the jointed end, I installed the Lukes LInk.

Id guess i have 50k on it and not a wobble since.

Thanks for the responses. I was leaning towards the '03 track bar, but heard that they had durability issues, too...

The Thuren bar doesn't have heims..it has a nylon bushing on the axle end, and a bearing on the frame end!

Even if it does wear, it's completely rebuildable! If you have some more questions...give Don Thuren a call. he was very helpful when I was trying to make up my mind! www.thurenfabrication.com

I used Luke's Links on my track bar and tie rod ends about a year ago. Cost around $240 ish for all, went on easy and have had no problems at all.

I have a question kind of on the same topic. I was crawling around under the truck in the warmer months a while ago and found that if i grab hold of my drag link, I can see some side to side movement in the shaft coming out of the steering gear box. Now I have considered getting the DSS to stabilize the shaft, but is there something in the steering box that can wear out and cause the problem of wander and see sawing the wheel? Is the box rebuildable or just find a new one?

My track bar seems pretty solid. I can grab ahold of it or have somebody turn the wheel while laying underneath and can't see any deflection in the joints. But if it starts to go i will upgrade.

And by the way, I have some steering wander and the wheel is cocked to the left going down the road, which is a common problem i understand.

Not without some special brackets

Do the Thuren, you won't be disappointed! It was the first BOMB I did to the truck, other than a Scotty II

Well I broke down and decided to use some tax money to get the 3rd Gen Thuren Bar.

Just FYI, for those who don't know, if you want the 3rd gen bar on your 2nd gen truck, you have to get a mounting bracket for it like the one from solid Steel.

Took some $$$, but I ordered both today. I hope that it's worth it.
