Factory alarm, how does it work?

Factory alarm, how does it work?

I've searched and found posts on alarm upgrades that were very useful, but I have a different question. How does the factory alarm actually work?

The reason I ask is that it went off last night right after someone pried the rear window open and did it's job. I was amazed at that because I've never been able to set it off myself (but have stopped short of causing damage to my own vehicle). I mean I've jumped around in the bed while armed, I've slept in the cab while armed, and I've never had it go off. What does it take to set the sucker off short of a prybar which I wouldn't expect after having jumped in the bed?

Just curious before I upgrade to a pager style alarm. Thanks.

I have the factory alarm, but assumed it was pin switch only; no glass break or movement sensors. Are you sure that the door wasn't opened after the rear window was pried?

On our 2002 it works. Don't think there is a switch to turn it on or off. When I first got the truck, and was washing in and going in and out of the truck I set it off. Horn blowning, and engine immobilzer would not let the engine start. Had to close the doors and unlock them with the key to turn the alarm off. Called the dealer service dept to learn this.
I think the that bouncing around will not set off the alarm, but 3 beeps on the horn. My truck is parked on gravel, and the wind blows, so most mornings if the truck has been locked, horn beeps 3 times.

When the truck is locked. with the fob, key, or the door lock button there should be a red light flashing for about 15 seconds, it is by the rear view mirror.

That is all I know about it.

gud luk

The red light flashes on mine all the time when it gets locked as said above. Mine has been set off before from B-1's and F-15's taking off nearby. Now at work I have to lock it by just pushing the manual lock down so the alarm isn't activated.

How can you tell if you have the factory alarm? I have factory keyless entry.

Lock it with the fob.

Open the door with the key, horn will go crazy if you have the factory alarm.
