Extra Fuel Tank?

My next project for the rig is to add a second fuel tank where the spare tire sits. Has anyone done something like this for the second gens? I was going to weld in a second fuel door into the driver side of the bed behind the wheel and then just us a transfer pump to move fuel into the main tank when it got low. Just thought that I would throw the idea out there to see if its been done.

Then what will you do w/the spare tire? I added a saddle tank and it has worked well but I lost about 10" of an already short bed. Also having a tool box further reduces bed space...but I make it work. Just something to consider.

I normally stay away from transflow but I have a camper truck with a overhead. with no room in bed I chose a transflow where the spare tire was. it is a 12 valve 98 so will be the same as yours. it uses the same door for both filler caps. the stock tank gauge sender is wired into the computer display along with the ox tank. the computer display shows the level in each tank in gallons, system status and when pump is on. it keeps the tanks equalized and the truck gauge see's the equalized reading. my total capacity is 76 gallons, it has been on the truck since 2000 my truck is a dually so if I have a blowout that a plug can not fix I can use one tire off rear.

I have a tank I have not yet installed. I plan on running a separate line with its own primary filtration to a switch before the lift pump. it will have its own filler neck.

Maybe this one with a little tweaking. Call and speak to Jacob. He may be able to fab one for you.

With the 35" tires indicated in his signature, probably leave it in the bed. Assuming he carries one.

I have been considering this auxiliary fuel tank to replace the spare tire in my truck: Northwest Metal Products

I was planning on just loosing the spare when I am local and just throw it in the bed when I travel. I already have a toolbox but I am not willing to sacrifice the space under it.

XLR8 - Thanks for that link. I actually really liked the donut tank that fits above the spare tire.

I always wanted to do a swing mount spare tire carrier like on the old Broncos for the RAM. I have seen a few on other rigs built off a custom rear bumper and that would allow plenty of room for an auxiliary fuel tank but is a pretty spendy option.....
