Evaporator Core

Well refilled the AC tonight and i could hear a hissing coming from the heater box. My brother inlaw a mechanic said it is the core, all Dodge trucks fail sooner or later. He said that he has done a couple hundred and they still take 5 hours. Alldata lists like 10 or more hours.
has anyone done this and is it that hard? It's gettin hot in here.

It took me about 10 hours and that is not including vaccuming the system and charging it. I put the vaccum on when I was done and charged it the next day. I don't have much time right now, but I'll try to find the detailed instructions I used off the net, but in the meantime search for posts by me with the word evaporator in it. I've explained the job once or twice.

I liked doing them at the dealer. If I remember correctly it was a moduler dash, meaning one piece with large connectors to disconnect the wire harness, unbolt the steering column and let it drop down on the floorboard, unbolt the dash and usually helps to have someone to help you move the dash out of the cab and into the bed. Then you have to remove the hvac case, disconnect heater hoses, ac lines, split the case on the shop floor, insert new evap, reverse procedures..... Not to bad of a job, I know I did one in a couple of hours on a 98 or 99 with a 5spd, but I have been turning wrenches for almost 18 years.....would much rather take a dash out of a dodge truck than a 99 Chevy truck...... That's one of those piece by piece dash's. Radio, ac controls, trim, hopefully you don't have to completely remove steering column, fish wires out of dash....so when you go back together you have to figure out where the wires ran originally....ohhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! Making my head hurt thinking about it!!!
