EGT gauge relocation

Today I moved my EGT gauge from post-turbo to pre-turbo. The relocation went just fine, however when I went to start the truck after we were finished, it ran really rough. After about 5 seconds, I turned it off and opened the hood to see if there was anything obvious as to what the problem could be. I couldn't see anything so I started it back up and it was still rough. I then backed it out of the driveway and took it for a drive and it cleared up quickly. I stopped for gas, it started just fine afterwards. Went to another store, it started fine again. Any ideas of what could have caused it to initially run rough?

To give a little background on the egt relocation, I took the 4 bolts out holding the turbo to the exhaust manifold and moved it about 1-2 inches out, put a rag over the inlet to the turbo to keep the metal shavings out, and proceeded with the drilling and tapping. Vaccumed inside the manifold and the turbo inlet to make sure the shavings we cleaned up and put it all together. (I know the rag still isn't in there!)

Anyway, any ideas?

Nope. Just the P ECM and P Done which I believe are normal.

You have no codes, those two are normal. Maybe it was just the manifold-turbo gasket reseating itself.

????Stopped for Gas?? Maybe that's the problem?? Just teasing... hope someone can shed some light on this, as I am going to do the same. Kevin, did you just use a pipe plug to plug the post turbo hole?

No, I just used a hose clamp with a washer to cover the hole. We'll see if that holds. I was a little low on fuel at the time, but I'm sure that didn't cause it. Very strange.

Did you disconnect the batteries? If so, the computer prolly needed to relearn it's settings.

Did you open anything in the fuel system? Air in the lines will do that.

I didn't disconnect the batteries and I didn't do anything with the fuel system. Its very strange but it has ran great since then so I'm not going to worry about it. I can't believe what a difference the reading is between post turbo and pre turbo. That needle now moves a lot more.
