Easy way to stop a truck thief?

Is there a part I can easily remove out of the engine compartment that makes the truck impossible to start? On my gasser the old trick was to pull the coil wire. I'm going hiking in the boonies and will be leaving the truck alone for a few days at the trail head.

You know some smart guy will suggest removing the engine.............but I won't. Maybe a fuse or relay might work. I'm sure someone will jump in shortly.

Do a search for "Kill Switch"

You should find what you need.

you could put a toggle switch in line on the fuel cut off under the hood so no one could get to it while your gone. the can crank and crank with it in that possition you dont get fuel or just pull the main fuse or the fuel relay under the hood prob the easiest.

Pull the fuel control solenoid relay. But,, thieves now days, at least the pros, don't bother. They just pull up with a roller back and are gone in under three minutes!!

Disconect the cam or crank sensor. I believe the cam sensor is behind the VP44 and the crank sensor is drivers side in teh front cover by the crank timing gear. Only have to disconnect 1 and the truck will never start. It will give you a check engine light for no SRS and/or TRS signal. Hope it works, lol.

I was going to suggest the fuel shutoff solenoid relay.

...disconnect battery

...disconnect starter lead

...install a dangerous snake in the cab

Depending on your craziness level, etc... you could go so far as to chain the close side of a rim on the front and back axles (I did this with a strap once to act as an additional parking break on a trailer that I had to leave on a hill).

I wouldn't go too wild on this. If they try to crank it for long you'll have dead batteries, and you might get stranded.
If they break anything to gain access, you'll have to fix it.

I would just be sure your insurance is up to value and you added all the accessories you installed.

If they want the truck they'll get it regardless of what you've done, if they are amateurs they'll make more damage trying to steal something than actual value of it.

A friend of mine had to replace 2 windows and all the front leather seats since thieves broke in (from both sides), laid cardboard on seats (to avoid getting cut) and disconnected radio and amp.
Well all the glass collected underneath cardboard did a really nice job to his leather seats.... Value of radio and amp on black market = $ 50.00, damage done $ 3500.00

Also consider vandalism, if they cannot take what they want they might vandalize it for revenge.

If you ever get a Smarty you can download the anti-theft program.

so should we just leave the keys in the ignition and the doors unlocked so they don't hurt it?

not sure about you, but my insurance covers against theft, vandalism, etc. but, I'd rather have my truck messed up and still get to KEEP it and be reimbursed for any damages than have somebody get to drive it away undamaged
