I guess we are going to wear this subject out ,but here goes;
I bought this 01 2500 2wd/w 80000 mi good trk not abused,but it wanders in the steering like all the threads i have read got it checked out at front in shop everthing tight. installed a DSS,helped a lot ,ajusted gear box 1 turn in,to tight now.should i tighten the screw all the way in and back off a turn or 2? What is the proper adjustment ,I think dodge should recall this,it really stinks ,this steering reminds me of an old freightliner with air assist power steering that was bad, thanks for the space. dugout doug love that cummins.

 

Doug, For whatever it's worth...

Mine is an '01 4wd, had delay in input from day one. Tightened box aprox. 1/8 turn, noticable change!

Grilled tech @ alignment shop, he said small adjustments are best. Hope this helps.

Love my Cummins also, does mean we are having a three way?

I just got a 95 and it wanders pretty bad too......I must look like im drunk goin down the road. Ill give it a 1/8 turn and see how it does

Thought of something else this AM.... Iron, have someone "rock" the steering wheel back and forth (with the motor off) while you watch/feel the movement between the steering shaft & the pitman arm-sector shaft.
The same basic thing as when checking tie rod ends etc.

Another thing, more of a related FYI. After installing the new tires/wheels had Dodger's toe caster, camber checked adjusted. Poor guy tried to set toein 6 or 7 times, would not keep setting. I suggestted doing adjustment WITH motor running. First time was all it took! Must have something to do with hyd. psi. against the centering ball?
Anyway,,, it worked. Might try that also.
