Drilling out transfer case shift rod.

Anybody drilled it out before with a hand drill? I need to run some wires up through the rod. I don't have access to a drill press. If you have done it before, post up some hints to keep the hole straight. Only about 4 inches of straight before the rod curves.

I'd set it up in a vise nice and level and then drill a smaller pilot hole first. Check that the drill is level and build up some wood under it to help keep it level while you drill. A good cordless has a nice flat bottom or you could use a corded drill on its side. A machine shop could probably do this for you perfectly for not much money. Good luck, Kurt

Thanks for the info.
When I got to work I was checking out the maintenance shop. Drill press in the corner will work beautifully.

That'd be the best way to get it right!
