Yeh I think this is what they are looking at, only on the registration.

I'm actually paying more for this plate then a regular plate. $115. See how much Illinois appreciates it's Vets. Anything to make a buck.

I am beginning to wonder if I will loose my "D" weight class designation by going through all these hoops. I don't do alot of towing but Occasionally move a car with the trailer or pickup 2-3 tons of pellets for the pellet stove.

Probably should just get the regular plate. Iwas looking forward to that Veteran plate though.

If you still want to try for it, find out if the weight is for curb weight or GVW. If it's curb weight, you should get it weighed at a certified scale to satisfy them.

That sounds like the weight of the truck plus the load weight. My 07.5, 2500, 6.7, auto, 4x4, quad cab, SLT with hard tonneau, linex, step rails, weight was under 7200 lbs at a scale but with the approx 2000 lb load it comes in around that figure.

First off lets say that the DOT in any country are a pain in the behind. I drive a commercial truck and I hate to have to enter the scale house because we know that they need to find something wrong. Its like I heard on the Sat. radio one day, trucks are rolling ATM machines.
There is no way a 2500 truck weighs 9000 lbs. unless its outfitted with many options like a plow or dump bed etc. My '01 with me and a full tank of fuel was 7040 lbs. Another day I asked the officer what the deal was on the light trucks. I told him the DMV has my tags registered at 5000 lbs. He said unless we were using the truck daily for work and it was loaded heavy they wouldn't even look at it. I don't trust them but I never load it so I will run it and take my chances at being 2000 lbs over weight sitting.
Sorry I got a bit off topic but everytime I hear DOT my blood boils, they should be working with us not trying to nail us for every little thing.

They are going byGVW not curb weight. I can't get most special plates in VA because of my GVW and I don't qualify for the Personal Property break.

I haven't read all the posts in detail...But I weighted my 4x4,reg cab, fuel tank full and it came to 6,800 lbs...Not near the 9,000 lbs for a 2wd truck they are saying..

Thank you for your service. You don't say what your home State is, how about checking the Department of Revenue section of that State's web site? If nothing else, you could get their phone number to call to get your answers.

Well you can try here California and here Idaho.

If you are active duty military, don't you have the ability to keep your driver's licence and vehicle registration in your home state?

They 'think' at the DMV!

Now that's a good one!

Your ID sticker on the doorjamb should tell all.

If you're in Mountain Home, go behind the court house (south side) in the small brown building. That's the DMV office. Register your vehicle in Idaho, show them your military ID, and you should get veteran tags the same day.

It'll cost you a few bucks more to get them, though.
