At DOT, they think my truck weighs 9000 lbs
 

I am here argueing with DOT. They are telling me my truck weighs 9000 lbs. There is no way. How can I convince them otherwise. I am trying to get a veteran plate and they wont put one on a truck that weighs 9000 lbs. Anyone have any quick suggestions before I leave here.

Get it weighed and see what it is. Any scale will give you a weight ticket.

Yeh the scale is where I'm headed. They aren't trying to charge me more, they are trying to tell me I can't get a veterans license plate because my truck weighs too much. I've seen these plates on 3500 4x4's and my truck is a 2500 2wd. They got something messed up on the registration somwhere along the line. Worthless fools [verymad]

I sure do not believe a 3/4 ton 2wd weighs more than 7,000#

Appreciate your service but perhaps you might be better served by checking to see if your state has a permanent registration for older vehicles.
In Montana any vehicle over ten years old is eligible. I paid about $110 for mine five years ago and haven't had to pay a dime since.
No more renewal notices, just a license plate sticker that says exempt.
Many states offer this but for good reason ($$$) don't advertise it, you have to ask.

Check the operating parameter's for an "older vehicle or historic vehicle plate" [nonono]

Before buying one-- for example here in MI that vehicle can then only LEGALLY be driven to car shows or parades.

get the scale ticket make sure your trucks info is on the scale ticket.
get your Veteran Plates I dont know what ones you are getting veteran Branch ones or a Disabled Veteran plates. i have had my disabled veteran plates for about 3 years now. those dont cost anything and they never need stickers etc. good for life. those are based off service connected injuries/%
in Oregon I got my papers from a Veteran REP, didn't need to to to the DMV. mailed it off to the DMV and they sent me plates.

If you show them the sticker on your door jamb, it'll show the GVWR for your truck is 8800 lbs. Hopefully they know that means it is max allowable weight, not curb weight.

I was looking at plates here and was thinking about getting the Silver Star plate or the Purple Heart one...I don't know, can't make up my mind......

I would really prefer a CIB plate if they made one ;)......but they don't [yuk]

If you tow, and tow heavy, I would forget the plate and register it as what they are telling you.

The DOT's in every state are now going to or using the new fed weight class levels for truck registrations.

Our Dodge diesel trucks weigh more than the 'equivalents' in Fords or Chevys, they are put into a lesser weight class. Don't under CLASS yourself.

I agree with the door sticker statement. Even at gcw, it's still less than 9k, so all should be well. My ex cab 4x4 consistently weighs in at 7200 when I go to the landfill...

I got a Persian Gulf Vet plate and all I have to pay is $4.75 a year.

in utah it costs extra to get a veterans plate[yuk]

My 96 2500 which is a 2wd clubcab, and when setup when I was towing RVs,, my truck with the 5th wheel, tool box/ fuel tank, which was a 75 gallon tank full of fuel and me in truck weighed in at right around 7,890 pounds, so for sure yours will be less than mine is
