Door Pins

I'm having a little problem with finding the right size door pins and bushings to go in the hinges on my 97 3500. I've gotten some that were the correct length, but the wrong diameter. The only way to get them from dodge is the entire hinge. $74.?? upper and $4?.?? lower. Don't really want to do this route but if so I guess I'll have to. Have any of ya'll had this problem? Do any of ya'll know a place to get the correct parts? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I have changed door pins/bushings on old cars/trucks, but never did a set on these Dodges yet. Usually I would just knock the old pin/bushing out & press the new one in. I haven't looked at the design yet on my truck, but will be doing a set this summer.

Guys,
I did a set on my 97 Ram , not hard at all and worked very well , if you get a set have a read through the instruction he supplies , there are a couple of drill bits that will be needed .

FWIW LMC has bolt in door pin replacements with new bushings inexpensively too.

Yup, got the same set in my truck. They work great. I've had them in there for 2+ years.

Is the clunking and other noises when I open the door a direct result of these pins/bushings going bad?

Open your door and pickup on the bottom of the door. If it moves an appreciable amount then it's probably your culprit.

Can you not get any pins that are the same size as factory or do you have to drill the holes out some?

I had mine done at the body shop when they repainted my truck. They drilled them out and pressed a larger set in @ $75 per door. They are like brand new again. You have to do them in place because DC went and put bolts in that you can only get at by taking the dash apart.

You have to buy the whole brackets from Dodge. They are much more expensive than the upgrade off of Ebay. That kit also contains better bushings. The Dodge ones are little stamped steel junkers. You're going to have unbolt the door either way; so you might as well upgrade!

did mine with parts from the parts store. have any of you seen the little display at the part stores that has HELP on the packs I think they are in a red pack. they have door replacement pins and busshing kit that is less than 5.00 a pack I think. it worked very good for me. you do have to drill the hinges out though.
