door hinge repair

Anyone on here repaired their door hinges? On my truck drivers side is starting to clunk when opening it, especially on cold days. Seems like its sagging a little bit also. I found this kit on ebay, was thinking rebuilding it in spring.

I did my 95 a few years ago.My pins were welded on the bottom of the hinge but a little grinding had them right out( yours may not be welded in). Made up a couple of supports out of 2x4s with a bit of carpet for protection and made it a one man job. Popped the pins out, slid the door out to change out the bushings and slid it right back in.

Thanks for that info. My 95 doors are getting sloppy and I send him a email to see if that kit would work on my 95. Later Don T

Check out LMC Truck. They have a repair kit, not sure if it's any good though.

I think that's overpriced on e-bay. RockAuto has the pin-bushing-clip kit at $1.93 per door but no tool included. Do you really need that tool? They probably can be purchased locally for much cheaper too.

Cheapest door spring tool you can find would probably be at HF

I did the pins on my door and theres still enough slop in the hinge to make it squeak over bumps.. driving me crazy.
Might be time to investigate new hinges or larger bushings so I can re-drill the holes for a good fit.
How they wore at all is a mystery, bushings are brass.

Just had to replace the drivers side upper hinge on mine. Upper hinges are $41.70 and lowers are $26.04 plus shipping from dodgeparts.com. All you need to do is prime and paint them.

It's great to replace the pins and bushings as they do wear out and get sloppy, but a lage part of the noise and clunkiness always seems to be from the bushing on the check-strap. That's the cam-shaped thing that the spring acts on. They seem to get sloppy first and to fix it, it would require a new hinge.

When I replaced mine the kit I bought off of ebay was not the right size. I went to Ace hardware and bought 3/8" pins and fit them to some bushings I had from another door making them nice and tight.

Here is some info I posted on hinges and spring.

With a sagging door, make sure you gently close that door. I would pull the door to the door frame then pull up and close. If you just slam the door close you may tear the metal on the door latch and then it becomes more expensive to repair.
