DLRs went kapooie

Was driving the CAR the other day, turned down the street and pulled into my driveway and noticed my truck sitting there and the headlights were on! (The Wife had driven the truck that day)
Thinking that the Mrs. had left the lights on, i marched up to the truck grumbling all the way and unlocked it.... went to turn the lights off...and lo & behold the light switch was already in the off position! It was then that i noticed the smell of something burning! Now i'm in a panic...somethings burning and i cant turn my lights off, what gives?!?

Open the hood, checked and pulled fuses,,,, nothing,,, now i'm freaking out...i'm worried bout my new ac/delcos so i unbolt both batteries. Checking around with my hand... i got lucky and found the DLR cube bolted on the inner fender...it was very hot, i unplugged it, hooked up my batteries and voila! everythings fine again...i phoned the dealer and they want $120.00 for a new one!
SO.............. i'll do without. I now have no DRL but thats ok...the lights work normally now except for the fact that the high beam indicater on the dash dosen't illuminate. Dealer says it's a very common problem.

sighhhhhhhhhhhh

Do you by chance mean DRL-- Daytime Running Lights?? I didn't know the trucks had them.

What is a DLR?

Re:DLRs went kapooie

You should be able to get a new module from the junk yard. Are you sure that there is no TSB or recall? I would think that the DRLs are a safety item.
I had a similar problem with mine, but I am having a senior's moment and I can't recall. I don't think I paid $120, or I would remember.

Is the headlight switch OK? I think that was the trouble with mine.
I will try to remember. Sorry for the ramble.

Mine went out a while back. You should be able to talk the dealer down to $80 or $90. I decided not to replace mine as I can turn on the lights myself if they are required.

I have had no luck finding much newer style dodge parts in or around the lowermainland.

Smokey and Rattle...
i could get a replacement modual from a junkyard i suppose...years back i think i got one for my ford, but you're taking your chances with that as you dont know how long they'll last. And like you, Rattle..i'm happy with the lights the way they are.

I have heard one click down on the parking brake will cut them off, but I don't have DRL's to try it.

Yep this does work, BUT they you have the brake light on. The best would be if I acutally looked at the schematic to find which wire to jump so the high beam indicator would still work. It hasn't been a problem so far.

$100 for a 'special' relay to turn the headlights on automatically is crazy to me.

Where abouts are you finding newer dodge stuff in the wrecking yards? I was looking for a grill a while back with no luck.

I guess the drivers in Ontario are worse than in BC. there are quite a few wrecks around here. You local wrecker should be able to connect with the hotline to find parts.

If you ask specifically for diesel parts, you probably won't find them.

Looking for parts? Best place I have found:
http://www.car-part.com
You can usually find the part anywhere in the US or CA.
