Cruise Control is Weird
There is a new cruise control switch for our cars on ebay for $127. Used switches go for $99 it looks like. Mine is in crappy condition--the "On" button is barely working.
ANyone know anything about the new ones? Looks like aftermarket. The part number is

Cruise control
Robert I not a expert. I do my own thing when it comes to my truck . Problem solving for me sometimes is look at the problem and try to think of what would be the possible causes of a problem. Such as increasing speed after it is set . For one I thought the only way to increase speed is more vacuum in the servo . So since the servo is in good shape or it seemed that way when I pulled out the valves to inspect them . I was thinking the the pcm is commanding the valve to open to allow more vacuum for whatever reason ..This does not happen all the time sometimes it does not happen at all while driving. I towed a trailer to Forth Worth and back a few days ago not one single problem. I seen the cruise drop off going down a hill especially at slower speeds . . I don't have a vacuum problem as I have added a vacuum canister to the system just to see how that effected it . Not that I thought it would make any difference. I gotten rid of the vacuum booster for the brakes a while back . I don't see how a bad switch could cause the speed to increase. Yea to drop off down a hill . I thought surley some one else has seen these problems before unless there are more that one problem..
I tried all sorts of speeds. But something happened: A week ago my starter began to fail badly. I didn't catch it for a few days, but then pulled the starter to get it rebuilt. In doing so I disconnected both batteries. Today for the first time since then I went on a 50 mile trip and used the cruise control. I IS working... somewhat. WHich leads me to think the problem is connected to the electrical supply, as a previous member stated. The cruise now holds a speed.... mostly. If the truck goes up a hill, the speed stays constant until it reaches the crest of the hill when the truck accellerates like a bat out of Hades. If I slow it back down with the Pause button, and keep my foot on the gas pedal while doing so, the truck will keep the speed. 7 out of 10 times the truck will hold the speed, and when it doesn't, I use the Pause button to slow it back down, then the truck will hold that speed. Anyway..... it is kinda, sorta, working. I'm calling that a partial win.
