Cruise Control Not Functioning

Factory cruise on my truck is not doing anything. Turn the witch on and the light on the dash doesn't come on. There is power to the two switches in the steering wheel (about 6 volts). I took out the vaccum servo and it looks perfect - no battery acid corrosion, contacts clean, cable intact.

Is there an electronic module somewhere that could be bad? I would trhink if the servo was bad, the light would still come on. Is 6 volts the right voltage? Any other ideas.

Does your horn and everything else work? I broke my clockspring and it disabled the cruise just like you said but it also activated the air bag light. DC has a safety recall on it so I would call and have them run your VIN and see if it's been done. Heck it's free and it might just fix your truck.

It would help immensely to know what year your truck is.

Sorry, it's a '99 2500, quad cab, 4WD. (Why doens't that info come up automatically in my post, from my profile?)

I kind of think the clockspring is OK because the cruise switches have power. And the horn does work.

If you use your tilt steering everytime to get into the truck you may have a broken wire in the steering column near the turn signal.

when its cold out the insulation gets stiff on the wires and doesn't bend worth a crap instead snapping the insulation and creating a stress point for the wires.

Just something to look at.

If you can get a code reader it should throw a code and lead you in the right direction.

Vacuum appears good. I'm going to try an Audiovox aftermarket unit and see if it works.
