cruise control engagement- lurches

Does yours do this?

1)When I put it into cruise it grabs the throttle, over speeding for a few seconds the target speed by a good 5mph. Its a pretty good lurch from what the speed is that you are going/trying to set to- like flooring it for a second.

2)The other thing it does is keeps ADDING speed every time you use the "resume" button. So if you kick off the cruise by braking, then hit resume, it will add about 5mph to the original set speed. Do it again and you are 10 over, etc..

It really is one of those things that makes driving the truck a lot less enjoyable.

It will go to and hold the target speed, but only after that first grab. The resume button thing is a drag all the way around, making it basically useless.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Big Jimmy

My truck doesnt have the issues you speak of. If my torque converter has become unlocked due to me lifting off the throttle or hitting the brake and then I hit resume it'll punch the throttle and the converter will lock kinda hard but it wont go over my preset speed.

Mine does the lurch thing, the resume works as it should.

I've read that the cruise module or pcm has a 'learn' feature on some dodge vehicles. By lifting off the accel pedal, even slightly, while engaging cruise will confuse this 'learn' procedure.

The fix was to disconnect the bats to clear the learned data. I haven't tried this yet, my 'lurch' isn't real bad. So, I can't say for sure if it works.

good luck, hope this helps.

Mine does the lurch thing you speak of. After I put on the Smarty, it became worse. Normally, it would pick up speed for about 2 seconds, take the boost to about 15 pounds or so. With the Smarty on, it put it to 35 pounds for about 2 seconds, then backed off completely because it was about 20 km/h over the preset speed. Slowed down to the preset, then punched it again. The guy in the car beside me was giving me dirty looks. I haven't used the cruise since.

Same thing here, I always thought it was the cruise taking up slack in the throttle cable.
