Cruise control dropping out

Some days ago my cruise started acting up. It just simply drops out, cruise light stays on (as if I had touched the brake pedal) , but it won't let me resume then. Th light wil react to the button, but doing a "set" or "resume" won't do anything.
After shutting off and restarting the cruise will work again, just switching the cruise off and on it won't.
Got no codes so far.
Any ideas?

Sounds like your cruise control servo. Mind did the same thing. Light would come on, but I could not set the cruise or anything.

Got the invoice. Part number 4669977. Servo-speed control is the name of the part.

Mine works for some time like 10 minutes or 3 hours of driving on cruise and suddenly it will let go. Trying to reactivate it won't have success until I shut down and restart.
BB was this the same with your truck or was it plainly not working at yours?
And since you've got the invoice- how much $$$ for the part?
Thanks

I don't think it's your servo, but may be your brake switch. Pretty much spittin in the wind without being able to watch the inputs/outputs with a scan tool.

Mine just suddenly wouldn't work at all Alpine. I think when I hit a 3' deep pot hole four wheeling one day is when it died. Had to drive a 3 hour trip without cruise. I know. I'm lazy. The invoice doesn't have the price because it was covered under warranty. Sorry bout that.

JBody: With the brake light switch it would be able to resume. (I did also try to hold up the brake pedal and it didn't change a thing)
Would signal noise on the TPS input of the PCM be able to kill the cruise up to a point where it will only work after shutting off hte engine nad restarting?

Thanks BB!

My "guestimate" comes from previous experience with some DC products that have had your exact problem. Start car, life is good, set cruise, cruise either drops on its own or you can hit the brake pedal to disengage, but you cannot set or resume until you perform another key cycle. Again, it would be nice to watch the input/outputs on the speed control system. I know with ours it shows the last cutout (last cause of cruise to dis engage) which can often help. Keep us updated.

I have a 1996 CTD, 5 speed, SLT package and my cruise seems to drop out when I hit a bump and I thought I read something once on DTR concerning the throttle linkage adjustment as a possible source.

I guess I should go further as my cruise control will reset without shutting down, just hit the resume button.

Fishinghaoliboy I'd see to the brtake light switch - If the cruise behaves like the brake pedal was pressed when giong over a bump in the road this might actually be the switch engaging because the pedal is pushed down a little bit. Youz can adjust the position of the switch by sliding it's mounting bracket.

Just my 2c
