Side question. What is the best way to shift into 4L? When I do it, I hear what sounds like grinding right before it goes into 4L. What I’m doing is; switching gears to neutral while the truck is running, foot on brake, t case shifter from 2H >N >4L. What am I doing wrong?

Because it is VERY hard on ALL your drivetrain and tires.
Doesn't it feel and sound like it is binding, lurching and chirping tires?

I was installing gauges today on my 2wd 3500 and noticed this exact symptom today. Vapor/smoke coming out of my Crankcase breather hose in the front of the engine compartment. I also noticed this:

so it’s pretty safe to say we have the exact same issue!

That’s tragic. I replaced my actuator thinking that it could be the problem because there wasn’t a gasket and the suction and compression created seemed a little week. I believe I thought wrong. Still getting white smoke and 4HI still doesn’t seem to be engaging bc I don’t feel the power kick in to the front. 4L seems to be doing the same thing. I’m pretty close to throwing her in a shop. Running low on options.

Hopefully you're using a vacuum test gauge. If not then you're simply guessing whats going on. Harbor Freight has a cheap tester which will let you chase the vacuum system and understand what is holding a vacuum and what is not.

Did the vacuum test and all. Figured out the issue. Engine blow-by folks. Got some new erl along with stiction eliminator and diesel extreme in hope that it’ll mitigate or eliminate the issues. Hopeful, but not betting on it.

Excessive engine venting can be mistaken as blow by if there's a vacuum leak. Its surprising how many people misdiagnose this too...

True and I agree, but I checked all vacuum lines and they were all good and made sure everything worked several times. Throttle response was poor and some with engine power. I used stiction eliminator and diesel extreme and notice a day and night difference. Then again, I could be absolutely wrong could’ve just been the injectors and still have a vacuum leak. Smokes gone for the most part though.

If you're not sure if the venting problem is a vacuum leak then simply cap off the vacuum pump main line in order to eliminate everything else downstream. If the venting doesnt change then its not vacuum related...
