Cracked Dash list
I notice out of all the reported cracks here that only 3 were pre '98.
'98 was when the dash style changed, wonder if the material's chemistry changed then?
Both my '95s have been parked in the sun for 13 years with no cracks.
My Toyota pickup has been parked in the sun for 26 years, no cracks, proves it can be done.
If anyone feels the cracks pose a safety concern please file it here:

These guys take safety problems very seriously, just a few justified complaints is all it takes to force a recall.
It would have to be something like the dash flying off into your face or something similar.

I've been working on my '00, which involved pulling door panels and the A pillar covers. The plastic is junk...absolute crap. It has no give. The slightest bent will snap it. Very brittle.
I've opened up the front of the dash and got a look at the dash under my dash cap...there a huge chunks missing.
Alas, with the impending bankrupcy of the auto makers, any restitution of the issue is pretty much impossible. Too bad, really. It's just one of many issues which were created by, or allowed to continue by Daimler.
On the other hand, they have deep pockets and it would have been their responsibility...anybody know any good Deutch lawyers...?

yeah it is a shame as many trucks that are cracked we cant get any resolution to the problem, are there even any aftermarket replacements for these trucks? the first mistake they made was one solid piece, and then the junk plastic they used on top of that.
1999 Quad Cab 4x4 5 cracks when bought with 86k miles, now about 10 cracks with 106k miles 1 year later. Sad thing was I didnt notice the dash was cracked cause I bought the truck at night from the dealership.

96 3500 Going on 235,000 in the Texas sun and no cracks yet *knock on wood*
