Correct way to check fuel pressure?
Correct way to check fuel pressure?
Hi,
I recently bought a Vulcan Performance fuel pressure test kit http://www.genosgarage.com/prodinfo....ULCAN_TEST_KIT
off Geno's so I can check the fuel pressure on my 02' CTD. The truck still has the original VP44 injection pump in it.
I was wondering if anybody out there has used one of these on an 01' or 02' CTD & can tell me the correct way to check the fuel pressure. Any danger in harming fuel system if it's not done exact? I understand that it connects directly into the schraeder valve test port on the injection pump but after that i'm not so sure on doing it correctly.
Thanks for any help.

go back to genos and get banjo bolt #bf-tapped, gasket #bf-3963983 and go to the parts store and get a oil pressure gauge install kit get the copper line one it is about $7 it has all of the fittings you need. replace the banjo bolt on the vp44, connect the gauge with the kit and mount by the gear shifter. total tine about 15 minutes. if the vp44 ever gets starved for fuel it will ruin it. it depends on excess fuel for cooling and lube you will see about 15 psi on hard pulls it may drop to about 7 never drop below 4psi on a hard pull, use the gauge to determine filter change, as the filter gets dirty it filters better but on the vp44 4psi is the limit. the lift pumps on your truck is notorious of failing in a open mode the vp44 can work very well pulling fuel in a vacuum but its life is in days.
