Clearance Lights

Going to mount some clearance lights on the roof of my 99 Dodge 2500. This is a new install. I know I already have the factory cut outs/ slots on the inside of the cab. Just wondering if for this model year, there is also a factory wiring harness in either the drivers or passengers side door pillars? I thought in the 3rd gens there were, but not sure about the 2nd gens???
Thanks Again!

I am pretty sure you need the extra cab light wires harness that plug in behind the dash to the rest of the main dash wiring harness.

I bet if I don't have one pulled on the shop shelf, I can dig a wire harness up for the cab lights. I have a couple of 2nd gen cab light harnesses on the shelf, I just need to check that they are not just '94-'97 ones.
I know I have the cab light lens themselves too.

I installed a set on my 01 back in 2007. In my truck, nothing was prewired.

Dodge did offer a kit to install them on trucks that did not require them. It included the bulbs, lenses, gaskets, base plates, wire harness, screws and other odds and ends. Even had a template you could tape down on the roof in order to line everything up correctly. Think I paid $90 for it at the time.

There were two kits because there were two sets of lights mounted on top the 2nd gens. The older style was more of a triangular teardrop shape, and the newer ones were lower profile.

The lights are grounded to the roof metal, which simplifies the wiring in that you only needed to run one 12V wire up to the lights. Even if you can't fid the harness, you could make one.

Did they revise the lights? I put the lower profile ones onto my truck using a harness from the kit and it still had a dedicated ground wire. The frames of the lights were all plastic, so there was no place to ground. I just ground to a screw that secures the inside edge of my a-pillar.

You know, I'm not so sure now. I did this 12 years ago, and haven't pulled the headliner down since. It may have ground wires that went al the way up too.

I used the older kit because I liked the look of those lenses better than the low profile ones. I'm not sure how Dodge did the kit for the newer ones.
