Changing OEM Fog lamps

The OEM fog lamps weren't functioning when I bought my truck used. The switch lights up but not the lamps. A quick inspection revealed the lamps had cracked lenses, and I suspect that they are bad. My first question is how you remove the lamps since they are recessed somewhat, and the second is whether there are good substitutes for the OEM lamps. My other question would be the availability of easy to install rock guards for the new lamps.

My pockets are relatively shallow. I talked to the local Dodge dealer and was quoted 85.53 apiece. Would like to get something cheaper, definitely not more expensive.

Check out 1001headlights.com, they might have something for you. I purchased a tail light from them, good price and service.
Danial Sternes lighting also might have something.

I went with the piaa 510s they fit my sport bumper holes perfect.Had to make custom mounting brackets ,not hard though (check pics). The piaas are $$$$ but man are they bright , I have them on a relay to come on with the brights.

I failed my inspection last year because the installed fog lights didn't work. Like you the switch light worked but nothing else.
The bulbs are inserted from the back like newer headlights, mine were both good ??
Turns out the DC supply wire runs along the bottom inside of the front bumper and the insulation had gotten knicked. 12v, copper and water rotted the wire from the inside for about an inch back from the hole. I cut out the bad piece, sliced in a new one and covered the whole thing in liquid electrical tape now everything works great.

I was thinking about putting something in my holes on the front bumper and there is a unused connector under the core support on the pass. side. I have no fog light switch, where would the connector under the dash be? Thanks, Artie

try www.lmctruck.com they have a section or catalog for dodges (really not much in it though) but anyways, i've seen stock replacements for about 6$60 each.
edit: that includes the brackets for those who are just adding the lights to their truck when it didn't come with them.

you can buy the entire fog light kit from Dodge for $149!

I wonder about these dealers

Mopars Fog Lights undercut inclement weather and minimize glare. Designed specifically for your vehicle, Mopars Fog Lights are installed for an integrated look. Kit includes a dash mounted switch, wire harness and fog lights. This kit is for the models that have the cargo light for the rear bed area, For the old Ram 1999-2001 and 2002, 2500 and 3500 only
