cd player question
cd player question
I am looking to put a factory cd player in my truck to replace the tape deck. Does anyone have problems playing CD-R's or "burnt cds" in their factory player?
Re:cd player question
I put the Infinity AM/FM/CD/Cassette in my truck, and have burnt CDs to listen to and all is well. Takes about 10 minutes to changes decks. My truck is not a smooth rider, and I have yet to have it skip.
Re:cd player question
Mine will play burnt cd's but sometimes it takes it amost a min. to find a track. Sometimes it will give the "err" signal and not play it at all. I have two cd players that do this, one is in a 2500 and one in a 3500. I don't think either one has ever skipped.
Re:cd player question
burnt cd's work in my factory cd player. Only trick is the cd itself. A memorex will not work but verbatim will. So if yours won't do it try to use a dif. brand cd. Also I've heard some people have had problems depending on how it was burned meaning the program you used to burn it with.

Oh, yes I have had problems with it skipping. I guess you call it skipping. Anyways it does the same thing a record would do if it was scratched bad. Ya know when it keeps repeating itself and you gotta bump the needle ever so slightly to get it to move on. It's only happened once or twice and you just pop it out and slip it back in and it's fine.

Thumper
HTH

I've got a ton of Memorex burnt CD's that work fine in our 2000 Durango CD player. I did find that it really didn't like the CD-RW discs but the CD-r discs work fine.

The one in my truck is an aftermarket brand and it will play CD-R's but not CD-RW's.
Re:cd player question
My factory cd in the 3500 will only play the Verbatim azo's and sometimes it won't do those. I put the Mopar 6 disc changer under the seat in the 2500 and it will play anything. Bottom line is I can burn cd's for everybody's truck except mine :'(
Re:cd player question
I almost always play burned CD's in my truck. I have had a big problem, at first, with burned CD's. I found that the cheap CD's would throw an error code and not play, after being in my truck for a while. I figured out that the heat, in the truck, damaged the cheap CD's. I had to re-burn the ones that still worked onto some Memorex CD's, and havent had that problem in over a year.
Re:cd player question
To my knowledge Verbatim are the best cd's as far as for playing in automotive decks. My friend's 2001 plays them fine, but there is a long delay when skipping through songs.
Re:cd player question
The junk head unit was the first thing to come out of the truck as soon as I drove it off the lot and into the driveway. Aftermarket units are sooo much better, but I am sure some of y'all are worried about thieves... just tint the windows really dark, and problem solved!

-Chris-
