Car wash made black paint peel!

Hey guys, The car wash just took some of the black paint or sticker or whatever it is off the door of my truck. It is right between the passenger window and the quad cab back window. I dont know what it called or what it is made of but its flaking off now. So my ? is, is their anyway to fix that without having a body shop re-paint it?

some 3M adhesive remover would work

Oh wow...That stinks....The only thing I would say about the paint is to sand and blend in base and clear...But that takes a bit of skill which even myself can't get it right...

it is just a sticker on there. You can use heat gun/hair dryer to soften it up and remove it

That's why it pays to wash it by hand. I've always washed mine by hand

Off subject, but don't hit the grille with a hot water car wash in the dead of winter, it'll blister the plastic chrome coating.

My trucks black vinyl sticker had a corner missing and I jsut taped it off and hit it with some gloss black spray paint. It looks good enough that I am over it. That decal is hard to get on correctly I hear.

Does anyone have a part # for this sticker? My local dealer can find what I am talking about in his computer.

Use a mixture of a few drops of dishwashing soap to a gallon of water when applying decals. Mist it on with an old squirt bottle on both the sticky side of the decal and the truck, then lay the decal out and squeegy out the water. Dont do this unless the truck can sit above 70 degrees for 24 hrs straight.

That stuff is the best. Slow, but won't damage your paint. I've never found it in 'normal' auto parts stores, but any place that sells body/paint supplies will have it. It isn't cheap at 12 - 15 bucks a quart, but IMO it is worth it.
The previous owner of my '01 had the same thing happen, and he just removed the remaining sticker. I think the truck looks better without the black trim.
