My friend has a 99 cummins, and the truck wanders all over the road, and the steering wheel does not return to center very good. if you are going straight, and turn the wheel about 45 deg. it just sticks and the truck goes that way, it seems like something is binding. I was thinking the gearbos is too tight.

Here is my question. I have adjusted numerous gearboxes on these trucks, this one is confusing me, I can only get 1 turn out of this gearbox, and the screw just stops. If I turn it all the way in till it stops, and back it out, it will only go 1 turn then stop again. I know that it sould be able to turn much more than that. Any clues?

Check too make sure steering dampener is not bent. Mine acted about the same found it was badly bent.

Having a brain fart, where about is the dampener located again?

 

Steering Dampener is the shock mounted between the axle and tierod.

Any ideas as to why the steering gearbox will only adjust 1 turn? Should be able to turn much more than that...
