Can you Jumpstart these trucks?

Can you jumpstart one of these trucks with a manual transmission?

You know- turn key on, put tranny in 3rd gear with clutch in, get pushed down the road and pop clutch.

Anybody done this?

Yes you sure can, but it is tough the engine has a very high compression ratio and it takes a lot to turn it over.

You asked can you jump start one of these trucks. I call jump starting using another vehicle and cables to jump start.
What you are talking about, I always called "catching it in gear", and yes you can.

We call it push or pull starting in this neck of the woods. If it's a 12 valve you have to turn the key to "Start" first to pull up the fuel shutdown solenoid.

Thanks for the answer, guys.
Good info to know...

So I guess that means my anti-theft switch on the clutch pedal/starter circuit won't work if the thiefs just pull it down the road to start it...

If they wanted it that bad, they'd just bring a tow truck.

Locks & alarms are only there to keep honest people honest.

I "roll started" mine a couple of years ago. It worked, but the check engine light came on.

A trick to starting such a big motor by push starting is to let the clutch out slowly.

Don't "pop" it.. I usually load the drivetrain a little and then let the clutch out all the way for a Split second, and this is enough to get the motor running. I can usually time it right where there is only a large load on the drivetrain for a split second, and no drivetrain "whiplash". It will take some experiance to be able to get it down,, but it's possible.

If you are not going to get much speed up,, or have only one chance....... Do it in Reverse.
Make sure you are in Race,, I mean "R" Reverse.... Start rolling backwards, and then at 5MPH+ or so, let the clutch out real quick,, as the truck trys to stop, the weight will transfer to your drive tires, and plant them harder into the earth. (Works wonders for 2wd's) I bet 4wd's could pop the truck in 4wd, but I guess without vacuum power, it won't do anything for you..... 4-low would make it even harder to push start...

That's my toocheaptoreplacebatteries $.02
