Any of you done balljoints on these trucks?

I've got some play in mine along with a ticking noise I can't seem to locate. The ticking is really loud on the driver side when the wheels are turned sharp to the right and rolling. It has been getting steadily worse.

So what tools do I need to get these things out? Any tips because I've heard they are a PITA.

The ticking is probably the universal joint on the end of the axle.

That's what I was thinking, but it sounds more like its coming from the hub when I spin it. Its just so faint without the weight of the truck on it, I can't tell. I'm gonna be doing some more checking on it in a couple of hours. See what I can find out.

So anybody done ball joints??

you will need a ball joint press kit, and a day or 2 if you havn't done it before.
They are a major pain. You will either have to change the diff fluid or just jack up one side a little high and do one side at a time. Change the axle ujoints while you are there

You know what, I think I'll just go ahead and do a freespin kit while I'm at it.

Where can I get one of these presses big enough for our trucks, anybody know???? Can it be used to help with the axle end Ujoints too???

Hey now......

I didn't break anything this time, they just wore out.

Careful now or might just bring your engine hoist to you at the Raleigh dyno day. You could keep it in your dorm to hang clothes on.

Adam, I'll be around I think. Just call me. I'm doing a few different things. Going on parts runs and stuff.

The part # would be great Doc.

Keagan I bought my press from Harbor Frieght. I think I paid like $30 bucks for it and it works great.

Well, I got some suspension adjustments done and took Adam for a ride in the Big Rig. Didn't break nothing, but not sure if I like the changes. Gonna drive it some more and see.
