Exclamation A/C and Cruise Control

I have a few problems relating to the Air Conditioning and Cruise Control which I believe are related to the vacuum lines.

I have looked around for a schematic for these vacuum lines with no success.

Can anyone describe to me the roueting of these lines?

Never had problems with my 01, but on my 97 the vac lines start at the vacuum pump down by the power steering pump and travel up to top rear of engine compartment. Then run just under the lip thats above the firewall toward the passenger side. Don't remember if the different years were the same setup but maybe this can be a starting place. Good luck. E

Check the conection at the vaccume pump as preveously stated, The pump is located in between the power steering pump and the timing cover. While your there check to see if the vac pump is leaking, typically leaks where the power steering pump shaft enters the vac pump. Also pull the vaccume conection of start the engine and check for vaccume at the pump. If you don't have a guage just use your finger over the hole. Then trace the lines. I belive there is a conection on the firewall to worry about too.

What were the problems you were having? Most common places for leaks are at the vac pump(hose gets knocked off the nipple when doing other maint.) and the cruise control servo under the driver-side battery. Battery acid drips down directly onto the plastic vac tube and eats a hole in it. Then cruise is inop and the HVAC defaults to defrost. HTH

This morning found the vacuum hose to the speed control servo disconnected. I hope that this will solve the problem for the cruise control and the air conditioning and will revert after a test drive later today.

I noticed there are 2 rigid vacuum tubes coming from the inside of the cab. The lighter coloured tube is attached to the vacuum lines inside the engine compartment while the green tube is not attached to anything and is not even blanked off. Is this normal?

Also, lower down in the engine compartment, there is what appears to me a vacuum hose connector for 4 hoses on an airtight fitting. What would this have been for?

The green line is a vent from the transfer case. The four hoses might be for the transfer case also. I believe the white one is vacuum, green is vent, and black and red go to the CAD for front axle. Most of the time a connection gets knocked off near the firewall at the top where the main vacuum line connects to the rest of the lines. There's also a T that is normally blocked off with a rubber boot....

After a test drive, the cruise control found in good working order.

The A/C is not quite right yet and will require some further testing as it seems to keep going even when the **** is switched to defrost. This causes the windshield to fog up and to counter act this I have to put on the heater.

Many thanks for all the responses.

This is normal. All late-model vehicles(from the mid-90's)turn on the AC compressor when the control is on either of the defrost positions, regardless of the temp setting. Several ways to defeat that function, but I never felt the need to do so.
