A.C. Compressor Problem
A.C. Compressor Problem
I was changing the oil in my truck today and noticed something looked funny on the front of my A.C. compressor. The front steel stampings of the clutch appears to be attached to whatever is behind it (the pulley?) with 3 rivets. Well on mine only two of the rivets are actually holding it--the 3rd one appears to be separated.
If you look at this picture I pulled off the Internet, the three silver-looking outside rivets on the front of the clutch are the ones I'm talking about. Does anyone know if all three are supposed to be attached? I am assuming they are, but I've never messed with my A.C. system--it works great.

Yep, supposed to be attached, I don't know that I would freak out just yet, but it is supposed to be there.
If another one lets loose, the clutch will separate, I don't think it can come off the compressor though, I believe it will just not drive the unit.
