Compressor problem?
Compressor problem?
I have a 1990 Dodge Diesel. I just had to replace the altenator, and as I was putting the belt back on the compressor pulley, I noticed that it was wobbly. Is this normal? Or is there a bearing or something that needs to be replaced? And can it be done without changing the whole compressor?

Sorry, had to say it.
I'll see (if I remember) if one cna buy compressor parts. I know clutch kits can be bought separately. Bearings should be available. One thing I run into many times is the old attitude of "It's more than 5 years old, so it's junk I dont want to mess with." Shops and stores have no idea how much money they are missing out on.

It's best to proofread carefully after criticizing someone's spelling or grammar.
Compressor Problem?
I have found that Kragen Auto Parts has, a compressor clutch bearing. That seems to be the only part that I can find for the unit, other than replacing the whole thing. Think maybe that would be the fix for the wobble?
We have an industrial bearing supply house in Coffeyville. If you can get the old bearing out they can usually match it up from the bearing number. I've done this many times on the oddest things from a chinese made DA sander to a sears shop vac.
Look online for bearing supply houses or at WW Granger etc...

Chippy,
Had the same problem with mine. The air worked fine but the pulley was wobbling and making noise. I was able to get it fixed at the local AC shop. They installed the bearing without having to open the system, but there was some labor involved because they had to drop the compressor off the engine to get to it. Couple hundred bucks if I remember. Be careful though, there were two different compressors, be sure you get the right one.
