i'm about to do brakes one of my trucks and was wondering the same hing about the ceramic pads?? aanybodt got any input on ceramics? pros and cons??

 

Do a Google search on ceramics verses semi-metallic, or any similar search and you will find a TON of opinions. What you find out there might help you with your indecision.

 

My experience with ceramics is they are too hard, the rotors wear out instead of the pads.
Which would you rather replace?

 

that is also true with ceramic clutches.......flywheel gets chewed up pretty good with a clutch with ceramic pads

I started putting ceramic pads on 2nd gen trucks several years ago, after experimenting with many different linings to combat longevity and braking concerns on these trucks. I had had several customers with Rams who either had heavy trucks, or were just very hard on brakes, and the typical complaints were poor brake life, and instability after overheating the pads. On these trucks, it seems that if you get the pads too hot just once, you will forever have little brake pulls until you replace the pads again.

Anyway I stumbled onto Raybestos ceramic pads when they were first introduced, and have been very impressed with their operation on these trucks. They are very resistant to heat, stopping is very controlled and consistent, longevity seems more than double what semi-metallics were getting, and they are very quiet. They may be slightly harder on rotors, but not a very big deal at all. The pads don't need replacing every 10k miles anymore, so the rotors go longer without getting attention as well.
